Food Groups Pyramid

The Food Pyramid has changed over the years, the older pyramid contained i believe 6 groups and the new pyramid only 3. The current pyramid released by nutrition australia divides foods into 3 categories. Fresh vegetables (previously recommended as 3-5 times a day) have merged with fruits (previously recommended to by eaten 2-3 times a day) to form one large group with grains and legumes at the bottom (most eaten) end of the pyramid. Meats and Diary have been combined to form one group in the eat moderatley catergory. Sweets and Fats remain on the low consumption end. Nuts have been placed with grains in the eat frequently section. The pyramid can be found on the Nutrition Australia Website.

The old pyramid can be used as a healthy guide, i believe the recommendations on daily servings was helpful for people to quantify intakes. The old pyramid is shown below
