Skull Crushers

Skull Crushers are an isolation exercise for the triceps muscle. Isolating a muscle group increase the strength component of the movement, for this reason body builders typically train with isolated movements. Isolation exercises can also be used in conjunction with leg or core exercises to create a whole body circuit workout.  This will provide the strength benefit of an isolation exercise as well as the aerobic benefit of circuit training.

Because the humerus (upper arm) is raised, skull crushers will incorporate the long head of the triceps muscle. Exercises such as theraband tricep kickbacks incorporate the short head of the triceps due to the lowered position of the humerus

The tricep muscle is not usually isolated thereforde begin Skull Crushers with a light resistance to prevent excessive muscle soreness
